The face mask: a controversial staple of the pandemic and a new part of our everyday lives.

With face masks now part of our everyday routine, how can we can turn this into a positive thing?

Fashion.

And here’s the best part: this is a new type of first impression. No one's looking at your smile or your nose and they even don't really know what you look like. This is your opportunity to create someone new.

Our face masks can be used in so many different ways.

Use it as a form of expression, show off your artwork, push your political views, use it as a staple piece for your outfit, be a new person every day. Match your face mask with your socks, your shoes, your shirt, or even your nails. This is completely versatile. Your mask can make your outfit, or break it.

We don’t have stick to the original, boring blue and white medical grade mask either. There’s copper face coverings, go all out and wear a gas mask, different color bandanas, a thick cloth scarf, and if you’re really feeling vintage, a plague mask. There are virtually no limitations to the amount of fun we can have with this situation. And there’s even less to the person we can create ourselves to be.

But...just don’t have too much fun and make sure your covering is actually thick enough to protect.

Picture this: a blue monochromatic fit. Wide flare pants, cropped top, and the face covering of your choice. All black suit and by all black I mean all black and to add a small pop, a red face mask. A black corset top, cheetah print pants (don’t worry, they can be skinny or wide), and to top it all off, a cheetah print mask.

My point here is, the situation of this global pandemic that’s taken over 5 months of our year isn’t the end of the world…. or maybe it is, but that’s still not an excuse to not have a little fun. Although we can’t gather, go to school or even sit in a Starbucks anymore, we can still make our own fun and make the best out of this crappy year and take this as an opportunity to grow.
